Sooo... this is a slightly insanely long playlist, especially coming off the back of five hours of listening in my other 2017 posts. It's around twelve hours of music – 183 songs – that didn't make it onto my best of 2017 playlists. It came about because, when I was trying to catch up on some releases I might have missed during the year, I found so very, very much music that appealed to me, and it was overwhelming to even figure out where to begin listening. I started this playlist to keep stuff I wanted to get back to, and as somewhere to put songs I reluctantly cut from my main playlists when they were getting too long. So this is essentially a playlist of honourable mentions, as well as songs I've really enjoyed from albums I haven't had time to fully listen to.
Now, I don't honestly expect most people to sit down and play all twelve hours here. But I figured the playlist was worth sharing for a couple of reasons. For one, even if you just try a few things here, you're bound to hear something great. You could hit shuffle and easily land on a fantastic song, and maybe find a favourite new artist. It also serves a testament to how much excellent music is being made today, if someone with my fussy, idiosyncratic tastes can find this much I enjoy.
This wraps up my series of better-late-than-never posts on the many incredible records made in 2017. My feet are now planted firmly in 2018...or, well, realistically probably more like 1968 most of the time. But I will try to keep posting lots of great new music in addition to the vintage stuff I love. One benefit of these musical excursions I've been on is I'm now following many more contemporary artists and labels, so hopefully I'll be posting more new releases (mainly in The Listening Booth from now on).
