Having previously recorded German versions of some of her French hits, France Gall signed to Decca Germany in 1968. She released several EPs and a couple of LPs in German, before giving up singing in German in 1973. These recordings include songs written by German songwriters, and several of her French songs re-recorded in German (usually with different translations).

Most of the work is not as incredible as her French work, but then what is? There are a few real gems in her German catalogue, and many enjoyable tracks that are simply fun pop songs. And if you adore her charming voice, then it's exciting to expand your France collection with an extra set of appealing, catchy songs. Many songs are very German in flavour, and not for the tuba-phobic. Some are quite cheesy, but all are, at least to us die-hard fans, lovable! The translated songs are also worth a listen; the unusual combination of French pop with German vocals is quite a novel sound. Have a listen, I'm sure you will agree that France singing in German is quite adorable:

  1. France Gall - Alle reden von der Liebe (Computer Nr. 3 7", 1968)
  2. France Gall - Hippie Hippie (Haifischbaby 7", 1968)
  1. France Gall - Ich träume jede Nacht (German version of 'Mon Bateau De Nuit') (Wir Sind Keine Engel 7", 1965)

Normally I dig Mme.Gall, but when I first heard her German songs courtesy of Audiogalaxy (back when it was free), to me, that was like finding the Lost Ark. :-) You get 10 Cool Points for finding some more songs I've not heard! Gall uber Alles!

There's many more where that came from, so feel free to request anything. It takes all my restraint not to make every 2nd post a France Gall post, I have so many songs of hers to share.
I know a ton of you have downloaded these, so don't be shy - comments please!
What a shame to move this post down the page, the picture co-ordinated with this website so perfectly!

You're saying you'd have a problem with making every second post centred round France Gall? WHY?? :-)
Personally, I think everyone should hear 'Ich kann dir icht böse sein' or 'A Banda', if you have 'em..

How 'bout this? When I reach 5000 hits, I'll have a whole France Gall week. More German songs, some Italian, rare French and videos!!
Gee, thanks for that - I already have a copy, but it's a treat for readers. The only other song I know about that's recorded in Japanese is 'Un Prince Charmant'... do you have this?
Also, if anyone has any of her Spanish songs, get in touch. :)

Spikecandist, I'll be pleased If you can make a post about this other japanese song!

By the way, how great is that part in Hippie, Hippie where she sings 'love and flowers and peace and love'?!

Looks like I've stumbled upon a meeting of the France Gall fanclub. Where do I sign up to join? Gall is my favorite of the ye-ye singers, though technically she might not have the best voice --but me thinks she sounds good in any language.
    • Christine
My favourite too, in case you couldn't tell. I love the quote on the Ye-Ye Girls' Website about her being the most rocking, cutest etc etc. Her imperfect voice is endearing, and I love that she was allowed to sing that way and that the public embraced her. There is so much expression in her voice, and she sings her guts out on each track. Sometimes she's dismissed as not being able to sing at all, but there's still a fair bit of proficiency in her voice. Singing 'nous ne sommes' is exhausting!

Hey guys ! I'm from Germany and I'm a very big France Gall fan for two years meanwhile and if anyone is searching anything specific, just ask me, I have practically EVERYTHING she recorded, on CD. I also have about 14 hours of TV, video and DVD material on her, including interviews, TV appearances, TV shows, video clips, and other things. I'm still searching for some other TV stuff, namely from Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan. If anyone can help me out, that'd be great !
    • Christine
Hi Gerry. 14 hours!! I am very envious. Do you sell on ebay at all? I once bought a homemade DVD of rare France videos from a German seller, and I also remember one German seller I dealt with was named Gerry.
