'La pioggia' was originally performed at the Italian Sanremo Festival (the festival that spawned Eurovision) in 1969. The details are a bit confusing - some accounts say it was performed by Gigliola Cinquetti at the festival and later covered by France, but in France bios she's credited as performing at the festival that year. I did find, on some Italian webpages, the festival program details for 1969, and La Pioggia is listed as Gigliola Cinquetti/France Gall - so it was either a duet, or performed separately by each of them (which I doubt). France also released a French version, 'L'orage' and a Spanish Version 'La lluvia'.

'Chi ride di più', also released in 1969, is the Italian version of 'Les Gens Bien Elévés' (from the 1969 'Homme Tout Petit' EP).

    Hi everybody! La pioggia was performed by both Gigliola Cinquetti AND France Gall, seperately. As far as I know, in this contest there is always an italian singer, who sings the "original" and then a NON-italian singer covers it in the same language. So France Gall "covered" Gigliola Cinquetti there. If anyone knows if I made a mistake, please correct me !

    Thank you again, Gerry - you've been so helpful to me this week :). I didn't think they would have two performances of the same song, as I thought it would make the event boring - can you imagine if eurovision did that? I agree, I prefer France's version ... but I am biased too.

    I never heard the Cinquetti version of "La pioggia". You know what I just bought on eBay yesterday ? The GERMAN version of "La pioggia" (Der Regen), sung by Pompilia ! This is a very rare single, too and I got it for 8.99 Euros plus postage.
