Patricia - Quand On Est Malheureux
  1. Patricia - Quand on est malheureux
  2. Patricia - Reviens de Londres

OK, this is my first go at recording vinyl to digital and it's far from perfect.* But actually, after many failed attempts, I am quite impressed that I made it work at all. I've applied all the noise reduction, depopping tools, etc I could but there's still an annoying hum - probably down to my old turntable and shitty dj mixer. Any tips would be appreciated, especially if they involve not spending any money, or pushing a single button that makes everything come out perfectly. :D

These are tracks 1 and 2 on side 1 of a 1967 EP by yet another talented but little-known French singer from that era, Patricia. Recent posts of her songs on Mod-ified and Filles Sourires made me think of dusting this EP off and sharing some of it, as Patricia songs seem to be hard to come by. Like many of the other obscure French girl singers, she has a lovely voice, but only a tiny output of recordings.

Patricia performed 'Quand on est malheureux' at the age of just 16, which is hard to believe listening to her powerful vocals. It was written by a young Michel Berger, giving him his first success as a songwriter.

'Reviens de Londres' is credited to Bagheera/S. Lebrait - not sure if these names mean anything to anyone reading, but if so, let us know. Same goes for if you've got any more info on Patricia.

*Update: Tracks are new, higher quality rips.

Can't get the link to work right either, try: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/ then go to cables and adapters then to turntable connection cable

I think the reason you're getting the buzz is because your record player is not grounded...If you are recording from a record player make sure it is grounded. A grounding wire should be attached from the record player to a ground attachment on the back of the amplifier.

That's the back of amplifier or dj mixer ;)

Thanks everyone! And especially thanks for the tips. I'll definitely get one of those cable thingies and put up some buzz-free vinyl transfers soon! You should see this pathetic set-up - an old beast of a pc, the world's crappest dj mixer and a $20 turntable. :D
    Mark - love the new-look blog. :)

I just noticed on my stats page that 'Quand On...' has been downloaded about 20 times more than 'Reviens...', which normally doesn't happen. So if anyone's getting put off by the quality, the 2nd one is actually better quality with a fair bit less buzz. Also, it's the better song, in my opinion.

The back of your mixer will have a small screw marked GND. Any piece of insulated wire attached to this and then to any metal on your turntable should work and cost u nothing

thanks niandi! how embarrassingly tech-challenged am i!? hehe

Ay caramba! I just came across your blog and I think you post so much that I can't keep up, which of course, is a good thing. Anyhow, thanks for these, those are some rare ones! Also, I see you already have a lot of links, but would you be interested in swapping with me? I just started putting links in my journal... XOXO
    • Christine
sure thing! i've just added you. is 'there's a fly in my soup' the correct title? i think i've either bought from you on ebay, or meant to. i've just bid on something now actually :)
      • Natalie
Yay, I just linked you too. Yeah, fly in my soup or nurse marbles is fine for the link, it doesn't matter to me. Are you on Live Journal as well? Thanks for looking at my auctions and good luck!
        • Christine
no, i'm not on lj. i have a mental block about joining it. i think it might just make me a bit too tired to have another page to check.
